How to Make Your Music Website a Click Magnet
Wouldn't it be amazing if you poured all your passion and creativity into your website and fans flocked to it and spent lots of money? It can be done, but only if you know the magic spell that transforms an ordinary website into an irresistible click magnet.

Guide To Radio Promotion
Radio is becoming more and more important in an artists career, but steady radio play is becoming harder and harder to obtain. The best way for an artist to get radio play that people are listening to is satellite radio via XM or Sirius. This form of radio is more supportive and accepting of independent and unsigned artists.

Intellectual Property and Antitrust - Music Performing Rights in Broadcasting  - Introduction
Since 1934, the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice has concerned itself with competitive issues in the licensing of music performance rights by the nation's two major performing rights organizations, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI). Department concerns about ASCAP and BMI led to two Consent Decrees in 1941, two more in 1950 and 1966, and key modifications in 1960 and 1994. In September 2000, the Department and ASCAP again filed a Joint Motion to enter a Second Amended Final Judgment (AFJ2) that will, once enacted, make further headway into resolving some competitive concerns.

Intellectual Property and Antitrust - Music Performing Rights in Broadcasting
The Performance Right and its Enforcement
Copyright for the words and lyrics embedded in musical compositions is now protected by the Copyright Act of 1976, which was enacted on January 1, 1978 and codified in Title 17 of the U.S. Code. Section 106 grants four exclusive rights to composers/writers who create musical works. These rights include: a. The right to reproduce the work in copies or phonorecords, b. The right to prepare derivative works, c. The right to distribute copies or phonorecords of the work, d. The right to perform the work publicly. The fourth right, embedded in Section 106(d), represents the public performance right for musical compositions that is the topic of this paper.

Career Strategies That Work And Don't Work
In being a musician, there is either some sort of pride with not seeking someone else's help, paying for it and doing it on your own, or just being too lazy. I never had that problem. I was not too proud to pay for someone else's consultation with how to help my career, because it is a business. I'm not saying I always hired someone. I would also ask all the musicians I knew who were successful at what they did. After trying out everything suggested to me, these are things that I found did and didn't work.

The Perfect Marriage of Artist and Corporate Partner
In some purest circles, corporate support may be viewed as "selling out." But since its inception, Multimediary has established a track record of creating mutually beneficial programs based on a synergistic harmony between both artist and business. The result is substantial exposure for both artist sponsor, the off-set of re-coupables for the artist, and brand enhancement through experiential branding opportunities that align the artist, the tastemaker, and influencer of peer groups.

How Do You 'Unleash' Your Musical Talent?
Several weeks ago I presented one of my first "Unleash the Artist Within" workshops. While promoting the event, I discovered that different people have different interpretations of what it means to "unleash" themselves as an artist. Many people assumed at first that the workshop was about developing your creativity, along the lines of Julia Cameron's book, "The Artist's Way." Some of what I talk about does relate to giving yourself permission to create and feeling worthy to do so, but my definition of "unleash" is more far-reaching than that. What do I mean by "Unleash the Artist Within"? Well, I believe that to be a successful musician, you must be...

A Marketing Plan Outline for Independent Record Releases
Plan your record release as if you were an actual record label, taking on the role of both the Product Manager and the Director of Promotions/Marketing. Imagine that your label will be releasing a CD in three months. This plan presumes the project is currently wrapping things up in the studio and should be ready for mastering...

World Domination for Beginners
Next to your instrument, your network will be one of the most important things in your career as a musician. Whether you're signed, or an indie artist, it's not just who you know that's important, but who knows you. Having a working network can make the difference between playing an empty club and opening for a platinum-selling band. In reality, people like to deal with people they know. Usually, it's their friends. Next choice is people they're familiar with. If that fails, it's people that they've heard of from somewhere. In this article, I'm going to show you who you need on your list, and how to build a relationship with them.

How and Why Major Labels and Independent Labels Work Together
Major labels and independent labels have a legacy of exposing and discovering all the great music of the last century, but the role these two types of record labels have played over the decades has changed as much as the music itself has changed. Defining the roles these different kind of record labels have in today's marketplace, as well as understanding the reliance they have on each other, is important for anyone who wishes to start their own label or develop an existing label. The independent labels and the majors realize that to maximize their marketing efforts in an increasingly competitive environment, working together to achieve their mutual goals can be quite beneficial to both parties.

How To Cultivate Relationships And Propel Your Music Career Forward
What I am really getting at here is the ability to make others feel important. This is the crux of the matter. The music business is littered with over inflated egos and insecure artists, who seem to think that the world somehow revolves around them. They relate to others in a purely self centered way and do not have the ability or interest to compliment others, only to spend time putting themselves on a pedestal.
